Our Business With the support by “Data Strategy” (*2) to be promoted by the Digital Agency and the “Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program(SIP)”, we promote the following business to create an affluent society through fair and free distribution and utilization of data beyond the boundaries of industry, government, and academia (so-called “data society”) by working not only within Japan but also with the rest of the world.

  1. Provide a data linking service (DATA-EX) to realize a Data Society.
  2. Promote academic research that contributes to the Date Society.
  3. Promote collaboration among industry, academia and government to contribute to the Data Society.
  4. Establish operational standards for related businesses that support the Data Society.
  5. Establish technical standards that support the Data Society.
  6. Develop and implement a certification system for businesses that support the Data Society.
  7. Create data utilization to activate the Data Society.
  8. Investigate, research, and promote regarding legal issues, international cooperation and standardization surrounding the Data Society,
  9. Propose policies regarding the Data Society to relevant ministries and work with relevant organizations related to the Data Society.
  10. Other activities necessary for the healthy growth of the Data Society in addition to those listed in the preceding articles.

Establishment background

Based on the results of discussions at the dataex.jp Establishment Preparation Council (*2), the Data Platform Consortium and the Data Trading Alliance merged into the Data Society Alliance in 2021.

*2 Background of the establishment of the dataex.jp Establishment Preparation Council and the agreement
The dataex.jp Establishment Preparation Council, consisting of 5 organizations (“Data Platform Consortium（DPC）”, “Data Trading Alliance（DTA）”, “Information Technology Federation of Japan (IT renmei)”, “Vitalizing Local Economy Organization by Open Data & Big Data(VLED)”, and “Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Research Organization of Information and Systems National Institute of Informatics
Global Research Center for Cyber-physical systems”) had been working on the actualization of data distribution and utilization across industry, government, and academia.
These 5 organizations agreed upon the vision and mission that is “DATA-EX” at this preparation council, as well as on merging DPC and DTA and make it a joint a corporation promoting the project for further development.
