Standardization of IEEE P3800.2 Begins for Social Implementation of Data Trading Markets.
- International Standardization of "Standard for Data Space Discovery Protocol for Data Trading System Operators and Data Space Authorities" Launched –
The IEEE SA (Standards Association), the world’s largest international standardization organization, approved the commencement of standardization work for the “IEEE P3800.2 Standard for Data Space Discovery Protocol for Data Trading System Operators and Data Space Authorities” on February 12, 2026.
This standard is being promoted within the IEEE CTS/DFESC/DTS (Data Trading System) WG by the DSA, with support from the Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters of the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. It defines the standards for appropriate data space discovery and necessary connection information between data space establishment entities and DTS operators.
By providing standardized procedures to participants in various data spaces across different countries, jurisdictions, and targets, this standard enables data trading that transcends industries and business types.
This proposal involves collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), in addition to the existing support structure from the Cabinet Office Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, representing a united effort by Japan’s industry, academia, and government to create rules for the data society.
